Edward R. Taylor and Patrick H. McCarthy mayoral papers, 1906-1910.

Taylor's mayoral papers, consisting primarily of correspondence concerning the installation of electric streetcars, Hetch Hetchy water project, labor relations with city workers, street lighting, missing persons inquiries, requests for employment, and numerous parking and taxi permits. Includes some correspondence relating to fire insurance settlements following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. Also includes mayoral correspondence of Patrick Henry McCarthy, relating to municipal water supply, parking permits, and employment requests.

Born in Springfield, Illinois, and trained as a lawyer, Edward Robeson Taylor was elected San Francisco's mayor, serving 1907-1909. A leader in the city's cultural circles, and a San Francisco Public Library trustee, he was also a poet. Taylor died in San Francisco. From the description of Edward R. Edward Robeson Taylor was a lawyer, physician, poet, dean of Hastings Law School, and mayor of San Francisco, Calif. from 1907-1910. McCarthy succeeded Taylor as mayor in 1910.
